In observance of World Health Day 2018, Laguna University College of Health Sciences (LU-CHS) sponsored a one-day activity at General Juan Callies Memorial District Hospital (GJCMDH), Pakil, Laguna. On April 20, 2018.
Given emphasis on the program was the involvement of CHS students in disseminating health information particularly on proper nutritional care to patients, hygiene care and infection control practices in the hospital. Knowing the fact that good nutrition and proper hygiene help in the speedy recovery of patients, activities for the whole day consisted of interaction of CHS students with patients in the hospital.
CHS students assisted the patients by providing them morning care and by getting patients’ vital signs. Ms. Marjorie Manilay, second year, Midwifery student, conducted a lecture in the out-patient department on the importance of completing the immunization for children. At the pediatric ward, Ms. Jem Kimber Lonasco, second year, Health Care Services (HCS) student, provided information on pneumonia, dengue and diarrhea. Ms. Maria Cecilia Reyes, first year Midwifery student, who was assigned at the Medical Surgical Department discussed the significance of infection control procedure and proper wound cleaning, Ms. Jodessa Ferrer and Ms. Jayrose Dausin, HCS students provided information about Diabetes and Hypertension in Female and Male Medical wards while Ms. Mylene Custodio and Ms. Maria Soledad Española, midwifery students conducted lectures at the Obstetric Department on newborn care and the importance of breastfeeding.
This one-day activity organized by Prof. Monette O. Bato, Dean, CHS, Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, Program Chair, CHS, together with the Clinical Instructors, Prof. Marc Lester Quintana, Ms. Marizol V. Dorado and Ms. Jhonessa J. Layos was indeed a success.
