To give due importance to the Senior Citizens as a vital sector of the community, the Laguna University, College of Health Sciences ( LU-CHS), conducted a program bagged as “Handog para kay Lolo at Lola” on September 22, 2017 in Brgy. Bubukal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
Around 80 senior citizens from the different sitios in Bubukal attended the activity which focused on lectures and discussion on different topics related to Health Education.
Lecture on Hypertension and Diabetes, related risk factors, manifestations, management and prevention of both conditions were discussed by Miss Marjorie Manilay, a second year Midwifery student. Miss Marisol Española, first year midwifery student gave information on proper diet and nutrition for Senior Citizens.
After these lectures, participants were given time to ask questions which were very well answered by the discussants.
A representative from the senior citizens sector gave a short but inspiring message. Barangay councilors Armando Alcantara and Mr. Francisco Espenida, expressed their gratitude to LU for extending and sharing their projects and programs to Barangay Bubukal.
Games and intermission numbers in the program were provided by the CHS students.
The organizers and the moving spirit behind this worthy endeavor, Prof. Monette O Bato, Dean, CHS, Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, Program Chair, CHS, Miss Marizol V. Dorado, Miss Jhonessa J. Layos and Prof. Marc Lester F. Quintana, Clinical Instructors, extended their gratitude to the Barangay Captain Florindo P. Damitan and to the other barangay officials for their untiring support to the programs and projects of Laguna University.
