“Laguna University Senior High School is growing as we have our new set of Grade-11 students.” These were the words of Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Laguna University, in his opening remarks, during the Senior High School Orientation held on August 3, 2017 at the Cultural Center of Laguna.
The program started at 8:00 a.m. with a doxology led by the LU SHS Dance, Rhythm, Entertainment, Arts, Music-ers ( DREAMers ) Club and Ms. Christine Joy L. Manuel, faculty member, SHS. The singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the Laguna University Hymn completed the first part of the program.
Prof. Jenneth R. Mondez, Head, Corporate Marketing and Communications, started the “getting-to-know-LU moment by scrutinizing its Vision and Mission statements. The University Officials were presented by Prof. Marlon L. Atanacio, Program Chair, BS Information Technology. On the other hand, Prof. Emelyn U. Napiza, Head, Office of Student Affairs and Services, introduced the faculty members of the SHS Department.
Designed to provide the 379 Grade 11 SHS students and their parents with pertinent information about Laguna University and the Senior High School Curriculum, Prof. Agnes G. Ycogo, Dean of Basic and General Education and Principal of the Senior High School department, discussed the SHS Curriculum, Policies and Guidelines of Senior High and DepEd’s Voucher Program. Dr. Gualolarina C. Fernandez, RGC, University Guidance Counselor, presented the services offered by the Guidance and Counseling Office as well as the Gender and Development program of LU. In her talk, Dr. Fernandez reiterated that she, together with Prof Arnold D. Alcaraz, will always be available to address students’ emotional, social, vocational and educational concerns. Prof. Chrisna Fucio, Prefect of Discipline, discussed the Rules and Regulations of the University as well as the corresponding punishment for offenders. Meanwhile, Ms. Korina de Torres, one of the university nurses spoke about the services that the University Clinic provides. Mrs. Lourdes V. Soriano, university librarian, explained what the library has to offer, including the basic rules to remember while inside the library.
With 91.56% of grade 11 students and 89.18% of their parents in attendance, this year’s Senior High School Orientation , hosted by Mr. Jeffrey Santos, LU Alumnus, now a SHS faculty member, was indeed a success.
