Laguna University (LU) observed its 11th Foundation Anniversary on Feb. I6, 20I7 with the theme, “11 Years of Boundless Service” at the Cultural Center of Laguna. LU’s eleven (11) years of service to quality education was observed with a thanksgiving service headed by Mr. Anastacio R. LCruz. Acts of thanksgiving were expressed in form of songs, dances and prayers participated in by selected faculty, staff and students. Ishmael Yu Reyes, 4th year BS Accountancy student, shared his thoughts on Genesis 2: 1-3, where he described God as a servant. As a reminder to his fellow students, he said, “We can serve others because God first served us.”
The LU Performing Arts Club led the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and LU Hymn while Dr. Mayra Christina M. Ambrocio, Chair of the 11th Foundation Day Committee, delivered the welcome remarks.
To look back at the eleven-year journey of the university, an audio-visual presentation (AVP) entitled, “Laguna University and Its Humble beginnings” was aired. Moreover, Mrs. Eugenia R. Magano, former head of the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) of the Provincial Government of Laguna, former Vice President for Administration of LU and member of the technical working group which handled the creation of LU, 11 years ago, Hon. Rinielle R. Montaña, President of LU Alumni Association and Dr. Norayda M. Dimaculangan, Dean of the College of Entrepreneurship and one of the pioneers of LU, shared their testimonies about their personal experiences as well as their roles in making LU, the institution that it is today.
In behalf of Laguna Governor, Hon. Ramil L. Hernandez, Provincial Administrator, Atty. Dulce H. Rebanal, congratulated the administration, faculty, staff and students of LU for the 11 fruitful years and for supporting the educational programs of the provincial government. She encouraged the students to strive hard to finish their studies and be good citizens of the country. She reiterated that Governor Hernandez has a big heart for Laguna University because he believes that the education that LU provides, adheres to his “Serbisyong Tama.
Highlighting the celebration was the awarding of certificates of recognition to twelve (12) pioneer members of the faculty and staff for their eleven years of loyal service and consistent dedication in support to the vision and mission of LU. Former Vice President for Academic Affairs , Dr. Felisa P. LCruz joined Atty. Dulce H. Rebanal and Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, Vice President Affairs, in bestowing the loyalty award to Dr. Mayra Christina M. Ambrocio, Prof. Monette O. Bato, Mr. Anastacio R. LCruz, Dr. Norayda M. Dimaculangan, Prof. Roberto B. Dionisio, Dr. Olga J. Domingo, Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Dr. Gualolarina C. Fernandez, RGC, Prof. Emelyn U. Napiza, Mrs. Glaiza T. Sumilang, Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela and Prof. Agnes G. Ycogo. A surprise gift from the governor was also handed to the awardees.
After the awards rites, significant events in LU’s eleven years of existence were presented along with the popular dance craze from 2006 to 2016 performed by selected students.
The one day celebration ended with closing remarks by Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, Vice President for Academic Affairs. He expressed his gratitude to all those who made the celebration a success. He challenged everyone to uphold the vision and mission of the institution with respect, love and humility.
