With the theme “Building Bridges Through English,” the College of Education (COED) newly organized English Club, COED Elites spearheaded the 1st English Camp on May 12, 2017 at the Laguna Sports Complex gymnasium. During the event, the COED hymn had its debut.
The one-day activity was held to encourage BSED and BEED students to devote more time and effort to learn English and to speak correct English, to develop them holistically and to equip them with communication skills for ASEAN integration.
English camp, the first of its kind in Laguna University, showcased the talents of the 2nd and 3rd year students majoring in English through presentation of speech choir, musical plays, song numbers and declamation. These not only provided entertainment but also motivation for the students to participate in this kind of activities. Likewise, group activities focused on banner making, group name formulation, ID decoration, yell composition and team race. Such activities gave the students the opportunity to work together by group.
Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado, Dean of the College of Education, graced the occasion and shared words of wisdom and inspired the students to be effective teachers. Surprisingly, she launched the College of Education Hymn composed by King G. Caguite and interpreted by Miriam Grace R. Marquez, both 4th year students.
After these activities, officers of the COED Elites, headed by Michelle S. Maguyon, President, were inducted into office by Prof. Emelyn U. Napiza, Head, Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS). The English speaking campaign within the campus was also launched.
Awarding of certificates and prizes to participants and winners of the “Answer the Riddles” game followed. The team who had the best output were also given prizes.
In her closing remarks, Prof. Corazon F. Rubio, Adviser of COED Elites, gave due recognition to the Faculty members of COED, officers of COED Elites and the students for the splendid cooperation exerted in making the English Camp a success.
