Imbibed with the desire to impart knowledge on health care to the community, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of Laguna University (LU), headed by Prof. Monette O. Bato, Dean and Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, Program Chair, sponsored the annual campaign on Tuberculosis and Rabies Awareness on March 15, 2017 at Pila, Laguna. This is held yearly as part of the CHS Program on Community Development through health care services.
The activity was participated in by residents of Pila, Laguna and the barangay health workers of the town. Another focus of the of the health campaign was the celebration of Women’s Month which is held yearly in March. This too, includes mothers who take the lion’s share in caring for the family’s welfare and well-being.
Ms. Jhonessa Layos, clinical instructor, CHS, welcomed the participants and she mentioned the importance of the activity. Miss Kimberly Christian Saguid, 2nd year Midwifery student, conducted the lecture on rabies and she likewise mentioned the immediate treatment one should undergo in cases of dog bites and even cat bites. Miss Marjorie Manilay, 1st year Midwifery student, provided some information about tuberculosis – how this disease is transmitted, its manifestations and course to undertake to combat the disease. After the lectures, a discussion with the participants who asked questions transpired.
Games and intermission numbers were provided by CHS students.
In line with all the lectures for the day. Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, Program Chair, HCS, in her talk, emphasized the important roles, works and contributions of women to society.
After the program, the HCS students together with Prof. Valenzuela and Prof. Layos proceeded to the Day Care Center of Sta. Clara Sur and served food to the children. The group also visited Vibora family at Barangay Concepcion, Pila, Laguna to deliver packs of goods donated by HCS students and some faculty members of LU. This simple act of generosity was very much appreciated by the Vibora family.
LU-CHS, on the other hand extended its gratitude to the Rural Health Unit of Pila, Laguna, headed by Dr. Viel Bambo, Municipal Health Officer, Arthur Domingo, Barangay Captain and the other barangay Officials for the warm welcome and support.
