Initiated by Laguna University College of Health Sciences CHS), headed by Prof. Monette O. Bato, Dean, CHS, in conjunction with its life-giving project with the theme “Alay Buhay ng Caduceans”, the annual bloodletting activity was conducted by the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Laguna Chapter on February 27, 2017 at Laguna University.
The annual activity, in consonance with the University’s commitment to uplift the lives of every Filipino, registered 150 blood donors, who went through strict and rigid procedures before they were qualified as donors.
The screening process started at 8:00 o’clock in the morning. Registrants were asked to fill up forms and answer questions pertinent to their health status. Physical examination, blood typing and hemoglobin determination, interview and the actual blood extraction were performed by the medical team from PNRC-Laguna Chapter. Light snacks donated by sponsors were served to the donors.
LU thanked the blood donors for their generosity. Likewise, gratitude was extended to the PNRC team composed of Dr. Joey Ramiro, Kim Paulo Merambel, RN, Precious Joy Sacluti, RN, Katherine Dia, RN Jeniery Cacalda, RN, Xernan Dawinan, RMT and PNRC staff Jay-Ar Avies and Francis Mamipon, who assisted in this priceless movement. The group was happy and grateful to receive the 137 blood units from the 150 donors.
“Save lives through blood donation” said Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, chair of Alay Buhay ng Caduceans 2017.
