The Laguna University (LU) together with the Philippine News Agency(PNA) and News Information Bureau (NIB) under the Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) of Malacanang signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as partners for internship at the Governor’s Office, Laguna Provincial Capitol, Sta Cruz, Laguna on February 15, 2017. The signing was undertaken to formally make LU as an On-the-Job Training Program partner of PNA and NIB in the next three years.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Governor Ramil L. Hernandez, Interim President and Chair of the Board of Regents (BOR) of LU and Atty. Ana Maria Paz R. Banaag, PCOO Assistant Secretary for Operations and Special Concerns. Representatives from both parties who also signed the MOU as witnesses were Mr. Luis A. Morente, PNA-NIB Acting Executive Editor and Mr. Saul E. Pa-a, Bureau Chief of PNA- CALABARZON, Dr. Marie Joy Q. Elomina, Research Director and OJT Coordinator, BAC-LU, and Dr. Olga J. Domingo, Program Chair, BAC-LU.
Also present during the MOU signing were Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Colegio S. Gascon, Vice President for Research, Planning and Extension Prof. Monette O. Bato, Head of the Corporate Planning & OJT & Placement Office Prof. Edna F. Valenzuela, Dean of College of Arts, Sciences and Technology (CAST) Prof. Numeriano B. Aguado, Dean of College of Engineering (CoE) Engineer Paul Gerard R. Lasangre Cruz, Dean of College of Entrepreneurship, Management and Accountancy (CEMA) Dr. Norayda Dimaculangan, Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Mayra Christina M. Ambrocio, Guidance Counselor Dr. Gualolarina C. Fernandez, and Head of the Office of Student Affairs and Services Prof. Emelyn U. Napiza.
PCOO’s OJT Program Coordinator Ms. Teotilde G. Mendoza, News Reporter II of PNA Ms. Gladys Pino, and CALABARZON News Reporter Robert Maico also observed the special occasion.
Initially, LU has already sent six (6) Communication students from August to September 2017, namely: Gail Elline N. Balanoba, Imelda A. Batralo, Lorevie C. Dela Paz, Derick A. Licop, Arianne D. Valdez, and Jhornadette R. Villasenor who were all lucky to be the first batch of interns from Laguna University to ever train in Malacañang.
This partnership will benefit deserving LU students by giving them this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be trained under the supervision of skilled news reporters and writers and be exposed in the wondrous world of statesmen and politics. Aside from the priceless knowledge and experiences that they can acquire, the internship offered by Malacañang also includes exclusive exposure to different branches of the government plus tours and lectures.
Aside from the MOU signing, Certificates of Internship Completion were also awarded to the 6 pioneer interns who succesfully completed their training program under the best news reporters and writers in PNA.
LU, PNA, and NIB are looking forward to helping each other to produce skilled and prepared legion of the new generation’s young aspiring news reporters and writers to guard and speak for the truth.
