To give honor and credit to the outstanding students as well as faculty members in the College of Education, the first ever Recognition Day was organized and held at the Cultural Center of Laguna, May 18, 8:30 A.M.
The event was the highlight of the Academic Year 2015-2016 from which a bunch of students were able to make it into the roll. The program started with an invocation performed by Teatro COEd with Prof. Josephine Bermudez as the Club’s Adviser. To formally give the audience a background of the beginning years of Laguna University , Prof. Helenita G. Dionisio, Program Chair of BSEd English, took the center stage wherein she talked something about the journey of this young university. To break the ice, an Audio Visual presentation made by the Second year Education Technology students was played and served as entertainment to the audience. Prof. Rose Nannette J. San Juan, Program Chair of BSEd Biological Science and Mathematics introduced the first guest speaker Mrs. Elena U. Napiza, mother of Prof. Emilyn U. Napiza, OSAS Head.
Mrs. Napiza, mentioned some of her most unforgettable memories when she was still the OIC, Dean of College of Education from 2006 up to 2010. According to her, she was introduced into Medical School by her mother but since her passion wasn’t really into stethoscope and sphygmomanometer, she changed her path into another until, her mother told her, “Mag-teacher ka na lang”. As what she told the audience, her heart skipped beating when she heard the word “lang” after teacher. And so she took up education and became a certified teacher. That was the beginning of her never ending love for teaching as she said. Until one day, she was called to be a part of the rising dream of putting up Laguna University. Mrs. Napiza ended her speech by simply encouraging the future pedagogues to do their best in everything.
After the striking speech from Mrs. Napiza, Dr. Mila E. Isles , Professor of the English Department, introduced the next speaker who has been one of her greatest friends—Dr. Olivia P. Magpily, Director, of a Thai Nguyen University. Dr. Magpily is the woman behind every International Internship offered to selected universities such as Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) and Laguna University. She even congratulated the first set of trainees who had their practice teaching offshore – Vietnam in particular. She proudly told everyone in the CCL that students of Laguna University, particularly education students, are really on the right track and that the school, the professors, and the quality of education of Laguna University must be accounted for it.
Right after Dr. Magpily’s words of encouragement, the awarding ceremony followed. Those who were awarded were the five international and locally interned practice teachers. The service awards were for students who have shown their passion and dedication as education students. As a way of giving appreciation to the faculty members, a surprise awarding to all the hard working and passionate pedagogues were witnessed. It was indeed a morning full of happiness, honor, and laughter. To close out the program, Prof. Florencia S. Miñas, Program chair of Bachelor of Elementary Education, took the moment to simply gratify and congratulate all the education students and her colleagues.
The event ended with the performance of Laguna University hymn through the initiative of Teatro COEd. The program was made entertaining and lively by Prof. Jeremy Tobias and Prof. Denise Tolentino as the emcees.
