Last January 29, 2016, the CADUCEANS (official organization of College of Health Sciences), Central Student Council (CSC) and Team Dekada of Laguna University in cooperation with Philippine National Red Cross(PNRC)- Laguna Chapter initiated the Blood Letting activity. As part of LU’s 10th year Founding anniversary. The said activity with a theme of “aLay bUhay ng dekada” aims to help those who need blood transfusion.
PNRC- Laguna chapter members came with two Phlebotomists namely: Kim Paulo Merambel and Jean Del Rio Merano; four Registered Nurses- Raymart Malang, Mariecon Go and Tina Michelle Bacsafra and Dr. Linniet Ercillo- the Medical Doctor. They assisted the organizers in assembling the beds and other equipment needed to facilitate the donation of blood.
The activity started the filing of the official donor’s form, screening or physical examination and blood typing before the actual donation of the blood. All the qualified donors were encouraged to take some rest after the procedure and have food intake.
Majority of the fit blood donors were LU students and their families or friends. Out of 234 registered donors, 185 have found qualified to donate and was able to produce 185 bags of life saving blood.
This significant activity is part of LU’s corporate social responsibility advocacy by saving lives.
